Career fairs
Attend career fairs for the unique opportunity to speak to
- alumni and graduates from your college about their career choices. See why they chose Tax Advisory.
- potential employers about what grades, experience and skills they are looking for. Understand what they can offer you and the structure of your graduate role.
Co-op or work placement
If your course has a co-op or work placement, consider working in a firm or industry where you can get hands-on experience in Tax Advisory.
Now more than ever, employers are recruiting directly from these placements. So think about where you might like to end up as a graduate.
It’s best to talk to your Placement Officer and see what opportunities are out there for you.
Summer internships
In your penultimate year of college, think about applying for a summer internship in a Tax Advisory department in a firm. Firms normally recruit November - January and if you are successful, you will complete your 8–12-week paid internship over the summer months.
Similar to co-op and work placements, employers place significant value on summer internships when offering graduate positions. The internships offer you a great opportunity to secure a graduate role before you enter your final year. They also give you an insight into what an employer and Tax Advisory can offer.
Graduate Programmes
At the start of your final year, look out and apply for graduate programmes. They usually open in September and close in mid-October for the bigger firms. This is your opportunity to secure a job for after graduation, be sponsored to qualify as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and start work in a very diverse and exciting field.
Take your time and care with your application. And remember, tick the Tax Advisory box!
